IN DCDC12 – Deshi Character Design Challenge, celebrating the heroes of Bangladesh’s 2024 revolution. This edition invites artists to create characters inspired by the brave students, citizens, and youth who stood against oppression, documented events, led protests, protected their cities, and transformed streets and walls into canvases of resistance.

হুমায়ূন Heroes

Cartoon People presented DCDC11 with a special twist! Artists were invited to bring to life their favorite Humayun Ahmed book characters—from Himu, Misir Ali, and Shuvro to beloved side characters like Majeda Khala, Bodi, or Parul.The challenge celebrated the magic of Humayun Ahmed’s imagination, asking participants to reimagine characters only as described in the books, not from TV or film adaptations. Artists explored his worlds, let their creativity flow, and showcased their vision of these timeless literary heroes.

বিজ্ঞানী বসু

In the new year of 2020, DCDC10 brought back our beloved Deshi Character Design Challenge, this time with the theme of Bengal’s scientists. Artists were invited to create imaginative, locally-inspired scientist characters—blending real-life inspirations with their own creativity.The challenge, named “বিজ্ঞানী বসু Challenge”, was not limited to depicting any single real scientist. Instead, participants were encouraged to mix fact, fiction, and fantasy—drawing inspiration from historical figures, global scientists, or even fictional characters like Professor Calculus, Shanku, Dr. Doom, or Rick from Rick and Morty.

বারো রকমের ভূত

This edition of DCDC explored the ghosts of Bengali folklore. The challenge, titled “বারো রকমের ভূত” (Twelve Types of Ghosts), invited artists to design imaginative and locally-rooted ghost characters, blending traditional stories with their own creativity. From Skandhakata, Petni, Mechhobhoot, Gachhobhoot and many more, artists reimagined these spectral figures, capturing the rich diversity and mystique of Bengali ghost tales.

সুন্দরবনের জলদস্যু

Cartoon People presented DCDC8: “সুন্দরবনের জলদস্যু Challenge ”. Set along the Bay of Bengal, the Sundarbans was home to majestic Royal Bengal Tigers, chital deer, and a host of hidden tales.This challenge invited artists to bring to life the mysterious and legendary river pirates of the Sundarbans—figures who lurked in the mangroves or sailed the waterways in long boats, sometimes feared, sometimes celebrated as friends of the poor. Blending fact and folklore, participants created imaginative characters that captured the spirit, danger, and mystique of this unique region.

বাংলার গোয়েন্দা

Cartoon People presented DCDC7: “বাংলার গোয়েন্দা  Challenge”, inviting artists to reimagine the detectives of Bengal in their own style. From Feluda, Masud Rana, Kakababu, Misir Ali, Byomkesh Bakshi, Kiriti, to Arjun—participants were asked to create entirely new detective characters inspired by these iconic sleuths, blending imagination with homage.The challenge celebrated creativity and originality, encouraging artists to bring their favorite Bengali detectives to life in fresh, inventive ways—without copying existing illustrations.

Cartoon People showcased DCDC6: “সুন্দরী বান্ধবী!”Challenge, where artists brought to life their favorite friends or companions—the ones who brightened everyday moments at university, office, or celebrations. Participants drew inspiration from real-life encounters, fashion, and quirky habits, creating characters full of personality and charm.The challenge celebrated creativity and individuality, encouraging artists to reimagine familiar faces in their own unique style, blending reality with imagination to craft truly memorable characters.Challenge

মুক্তিযোদ্ধা

In the month of victory, Cartoon People presented DCDC5: The “মুক্তিযোদ্ধা” Challenge. Artists were invited to bring the heroes of Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War to life as comic characters, celebrating their courage and sacrifice.Using reference photos of freedom fighters from that era, participants reimagined these brave figures—blending historical accuracy with creative interpretation—to honor the spirit and heroism of the nation’s liberation.

এক যে ছিলো

Cartoon People presented DCDC4: “এক যে ছিলো” Challenge, celebrating the rich world of Bengali folklore. From kings and queens to Bangma-Bangmi, Chand-er Buri, Dalim Kumar, and the Frog Prince—artists were invited to reimagine these beloved fairy tale characters as part of our Deshi Character Design Challenge.With limited visual references available online or in books, the challenge encouraged participants to creatively reinterpret these classic characters, giving new life to the enchanting and timeless stories of Bengali folklore.

Cartoon People showcased DCDC3: “এলাকার পোলা The Thug Life” Challenge, where artists turned their eyes to the streets, illustrating the neighborhood characters they knew best. From Mirpur to Mohammadpur, Rampura to Basabo, participants brought to life the local personalities who ruled the corners, blending humor, attitude, and street-smart charm in every design.

Cartoon People proudly presented DCDC: “Hey_মামা” Challenge, inviting artists to celebrate the colorful characters of Ramadan. From Mama Halim to Mama Piyaju, Jhal Muri Mama to the neighborhood Chotpoti Mama, participants brought their favorite local mammas to life, capturing their charm, quirks, and flavor in playful, imaginative designs.
