Description
Dalchut Rustam – a messy, carefree boy who lives with his grandparents in a fairy-tale village called Sonapur. In Sonapur, every single villager is a farmer—everyone, that is, except Rustam. But Rustam has a dream: one day, he wants to become a great wrestler (Paloan) and travel across the seven seas and thirteen rivers.
Dreaming, however, comes with its challenges—after all, his grandparents are the village elders! And anyone who doesn’t follow the three rules of the village council has no place in Sonapur.
By the turn of fate, this spirited Rustam sets out on a journey toward the unknown, with his heart full of dreams and eyes brimming with unstoppable curiosity.
But before that, a question arises: how will Rustam eventually get involved in the world of wrestling? Can he really become Rustam the Wrestler? And why do the villagers dislike wrestling so much?

I bought the Rustom Palowan Combo Set a couple of months ago and just recently read it. It felt like a tribute to Bengali folklore, rural Bangladeshi life and all the classic adventure comics that I grew up with. I’m actually one of the older readers and the comic truly made me nostalgic.
The story is about a young boy named Rustom who dreams of becoming a “Palowan” but he grew up in a community that is against the culture of fighting (even if it is for entertainment). And it follows his journey in trying to become one despite the odds. I think that people who grew up in households or families where their chosen path in life is frowned upon (or people who feel out of place) can relate to Rustom. You can’t help but root for this lovable character once you find an aspect of yourself in him.
I’m also a fan of the artwork which is very vibrant and expressive. I love the colourful backgrounds and the dynamic action scenes and I love how it is steeped in Bengali culture. It is absolutely worth reading and it is very exciting to see a Bangladeshi comic series with a potentially memorable world and character. I hope to read about more of Rustom’s adventures.
